Portland Post Office to hold special stamp cancellation to mark Chinese New Year
The Portland Post Office is offering a special stamp cancellation on Feb. 6 to mark the Chinese New Year. The event will be held at Catherine McAuley High School, located at 631 Stevens Ave. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the U.S. Postal Service announced.
Co-sponsored by the Chinese-American Friendship Association of Maine, the occasion will feature a unique pictorial postmark authorized by the U.S. Postal Service. This special cancellation serves as a souvenir of this event.
Customers can request the special postmark free-of-charge by mail for 30 days after the event by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope containing the letter or envelope they wish to be cancelled to: Postmaster, 125 Forest Avenue, Portland, ME 04101-9998.
“We will be happy to cancel and mail back any letters that our customers mail in,” said Postmaster David C. Guiney. “Customers may also bring in their own envelopes to obtain a postmark that they can take home as a keepsake.”
For more information, customers may call Postmaster David C. Guiney at the Portland Post Office at 871-8529.
