Portland voters: preserve gay marriage, reject TABOR II
In voting Tuesday, Portland voters resoundingly opposed a referendum to overturn gay marriage; gave a thumbs down to a cut to the excise tax; balked at a measure to repeal school consolidation; panned TABOR II, the limitation on state and local government spending; supported medical marijuana; backed a transportation bond package; and narrowly supported a constitutional amendment increasing the amount of time that local officials have to certify the signatures on direct initiative petitions.
Following is a summary of unofficial results, released at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday:
• Question 1, gay marriage people's veto — No (preserving gay marriage): 20,092-7,244 (73 percent).
• Question 2, excise tax reduction — No: 19,284-7,440 (72 percent).
• Question 3, school consolidation repeal — No: 18,477-6,837 (73 percent).
• Question 4, TABOR II — No: 18,271-8,116 (69 percent).
• Question 5, Medical marijuana — Yes: 20,340-6,646 (75 percent).
• Question 6, a bond issue for funding of infrastructure projects and the LifeFlight Foundation — Yes: 19,994-6,157 (76 percent).
• Question 7, the constitutional amendment increasing the amount of time that local officials have to certify the signatures on direct initiative petitions — Yes: 13,104-12,317 (52 percent)
